History

With Cardiff Castle marking the Centre of the City, it is unsurprising that heritage is very important to Cardiff. Although dating back over 2000 years, this city saw its greatest successes in the 19th Century, becoming home to the single largest coal exporting port in the world. The Big Pit allows visitors to explore a Coal Mine on the outskirts of Cardiff. Here, people are welcome to learn all about the rich history of the industry. Today, these docks are no longer used for coal exports, but instead, have transformed into the glamourous Cardiff Bay. With the stunning Millenium Centre and the Welsh National Assembly building, this area is the perfect place for a walk and a delicious cocktail.

Shopping and Food

One of the best things about Cardiff is the accessibility of the central area. All pedestrianised, you can wander through the meandering 19th-century arcades, visit the bustling Market and sample some of the country’s finest foods. From warming Lamb Cawl from one of the independent Cafes, to melt in the mouth Welsh Cakes from the bakery, you will be sure to enjoy the food that Wales has to offer.

Sports

Perhaps one of the most famed aspects of Cardiff is that is home to the Welsh Rugby team. One of the best teams in the world, this city transforms when games are held in the Principality Stadium. Beautifully sung traditional tunes radiate from a sea of red jersey clad supporters, as the town is taken over by the sport.
